Holiday

Depsite all that Hindraf had to say about the marginalisation of Indian Malaysians, MIC Samy and Pak Lah gomen claimed otherwise. But post-Hindraf Rally, what have we been seeing. All sorts of steps are being taken to marginalise those marginalisations. Especially so, since the 12th election is fast approaching.

After much requests and demands over the past 15 to 20 years, the gomen has agreed to declare a public holiday for Thaipusam for Kuala Lumpur and PutraJaya. This has been reported by Malaysiakini last nght. But is this for 2008 only? Lets ask Samy and the SleepyHead.

Meanwhile, those in KL and PutraJaya enjoy the holiday, at least this year.

A Personal Plea....

Incredible. Some 118 days ago Nurin Jazlin was found dead after having gone missing on 20th August 2007. All sorts of measures were said to be taken by our polis, politicians, government and civil society to ensure that such a happening does not happen again. Not too long ago, on 7th January 2008, a six-year-old girl was abducted by a man who used the same modus operandi as the one who abducted Nurin. Fortunately, this six-year-old some 2 hours later, apparently unharmed. On 9th January 2007, a five-year-old, Sharlinie Mohd Nashar, was abducted. She disappeared from a playground about 200m from her house in Taman Medan.

Incredible. What we see happening is as before, some few months ago. A young girl disappears. The polis has its task force formed. The media, the politicians, the corporate and their corporate responsibility stuff swing into action. It is now 4 days after the abduction and the polis appears to have little clues regarding the abduction.

Incredible. Various personalities have made personal calls for the abductor to free Sharlinie unharmed ::

1. Prime Minister Appeals For Sharlinie's Release

2. PM's Wife Calls For Sharlinie To Be Returned Unharmed

3. Please Don't Harm Sharlinie, Shahrizat Appeals To Abductor

Will all these personal pleas create more problems and cause the dastardly abductor to feel swollen-headed and carry on with his dastardly acts? After so many cases have the polis managed to profile him? Have they got their act together. Have they got any inkling as to who he is? Has the MINIster in-charge got his act together this time around. Or should he let someone else do the job, he can't be making another personal plea when the dastardly guy strikes again.

Could this be the break much sought after. BERNAMA reports that Security Guard Matching Child Abductor Photofit Arrested. Is this the break the polis needs, lets wait patiently. Lets hold our breathe.

Indelible Ink Needs Gazettement : 12th Election

This time around the EC has agreed to the use of transparent ballot boxes and indelible ink. But apparently their use need to be gazetted so that it won't be challenged later. Did the EC indelibly left this out?

A BERNAMA report stated :
According to Malaysians For Free and Fair Elections (Mafrel) chairman Abdul Malek Hussin said the use of indelible ink could be challenged as the Elections (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981 had yet to be amended. Malik said the amendment had yet to be made although the Election Commission (EC) had agreed to use the indelible ink on voters.

The Mafrel chairman said Article 19(3) of the Elections (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981 must be amended quickly so that the use of indelible ink during the coming general election would not lead to problems.

YB Cempaka Mad and Ampang Mushrooms

According to this report in Malaysiakini, the constituents of Cempeka must be Mad for having YB Mad as their ADUN for the past so many many years. YB Mad Aris Mad Yusof is a 4-term ADUN. Incredible, how can it be so? After all, according to the report in Malaysiakini :
For the past nine years, residents in Ampang, Selangor, have been asking for their Umno state assemblyperson to be replaced.
In 2003, they also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi urging Barisan Nasional to drop the assemblyperson for the 2004 general election.

In the 11th general elections, Pak Lah fielded him again despite the pleadings of the constituents of Ampang. And equally incredibly, the Voter Mushrooms of Cempaka voted him in again! And now they are complaining of YB Mad again. Some would say they only have themselves to blame and even padan muka.

In the 12th general elections, if the Voter Mushrooms of Ampang want to remain Mushrooms fed with the BN bullshit then they know what to do and continue as before. But on the other hand, if they have had enough of the bulls and want change, they should like Mushrooms-Arise, say enough of the BN bulls and vote for change. They must stop believing in the bulls they are being fed with and vote for change. They must come out of their comfort-zone and vote for renewal and a more transparent and accountable ADUN to represent them. And if this guy /gal does not live up to his/her promises, he/she should be given the boot when the 13th general elections come. Only in this manner will the serving ADUN get the message that the voters are the boss. The Voter Mushrooms of Ampang should not be fearful of change for the only constant in this world is CHANGE. So be ready to CHANGE when the 12th general elections come and say "Tak Nak" to BN.

The Moon represents My Heart

If i was to be in Kelantan or Terengganu, i would be whistling or singing this tune/song more often as the 12th approaches.

Say "Tak Nak" to BN wherever you may be.

Alternative Politician Mushrooms Have Arise?

The 12th elections are near. The EC Chief says so, the newspapers say so and the alternative parties appear to say so. Only that Oxfard, i mean Oxford grad thinks that it is his father-in-law who must say so.But then that guy is always so sleepy, so much so that only the other day, a group gave him a very symbolic gift, that of a pillow and bolster! As it turns out the Oxf.guy was wrong. One only has to read this article in Malaysiakini to know who are those really involved in deciding the date of the 12th elections.

Well, back to our alternative Politician Mushrooms. They are Mushrooms too, they have for the past 5 decades or so been messing around and not really getting their act together. At times they appear only to be fighting amongst themselves to forever remain as the nation's Loyal Opposition! Hopefully this time around they will get themselves better organised and provide the BN mammoth a good fight. But they will have to get their act together and allow the voters to get to know what they have on offer. What has happened in Penang can be considered to be a good first step. Malaysiakini reports that
Opposition plans one-on-ones for Penang.

Multi-cornered fights have always resulted in wins by the BN. The alternative Politician Mushrooms must have already been aware of this. But why they allowed for it in the 2004 election is anybody's guess. Ego? Plain crazy?

Time is obviously not on their side. The BN mammoth has already got a head start on them. Their banners and flags and election paraphernalia have been readied and even some have boldly brought them out on display, take a look at a recent issue of the Star.

Of course, fighting the BN election has never been easy and never will be easy and this time around won't be any different. But one can feel it in one's bones, the wind of change is blowing and hopefully the Voter Mushrooms will use their votes well and wisely this 12th elections and blow away some of those racist, sexist, bird-brained, keris-wielding BN buffoons away and prevent them from gaining entry into the august house.

Say NO, TAK NAK, PORDAH, SAYONARA .... to BN when the time comes.

Check here the next time to find out who are those who should not be in.

Give Peace A Chance : Lennon; Abolish the ISA

Give those detained under the ISA and their families a CHANCE. Give peace a Chance. Abolish the ISA.

The Anti-ISA vigil was allowed for some 20 minutes. Some of them tried to stay on longer but the authourities had different ideas and brought out the water cannon reported Malaysiakini.

First they declared the vigil illegal then they brought out the water cannon. Give the Anti-ISA vigil observers a CHANCE. Give Peace a Chance.

Herald "Allah" : No Again

At the end of last year, in the month of Christmas, the Allah controversy surfaced. On 21st Dec 2007, Malaysiakini reported that our ever-wise Deputy Internal Security Minister Johari Baharum. proclaimed that the word ‘Allah’ can only be used in the context of Islam and not any other religion. Thus more-or-less apply BolehLand copyright on the word.

Malaysiakini also reported that the Herald was having problem with the renewal of its annual publishing permit, the article said :
The Herald, the organ of the Catholic Church in Malaysia, had been facing problems in renewing its publishing permit allegedly because of the word ‘Allah’ was used in referring to ‘God’ in its Bahasa Malaysia section.
The ministry has also allegedly told the publisher to remove the entire Bahasa Malaysia section or the permit will not be renewed when it expires in two weeks.

As a result of this issue of the "Allah" controversy being made public by Malaysiakini, a slew of letters and articles appeared and these can be found here.

The controversy appeared to have been resolved and Malaysiakini had on the 30th Dec reported :
In a press statement, Herald editor Father Lawrence Andrew said that the letter from the Internal Security Ministry - which was hand delivered to the newspaper at about 10am today - "places no restriction whatsoever, and includes the permit for all languages, including the Bahasa Malaysia segment". He said that the newspaper received a letter two weeks ago from the Internal Security Ministry stating that the Herald could not publish its Bahasa Malaysia section from the date of the permit renewal in 2008.
Some suggested the reason for the about-turn was that the government would not want to alienate Malaysia's two million Christians ahead of general elections. Other claimed that it was a belated Christmas present from the government to the Catholics of Malaysia and were very thankful.

I am surprised to note that the Mushrooms amongst us find that there is a need to be thankful to the government in this present controversy. The controversy was created by the government and at best things are back to status quo. So why all those thanks.

But 30th Dec was not the end to the controversy. It is now 2008 and it looks like the government intends to prolong the controversy and is not thankful of all those Mushrooms' thanks.

According to a report in the Star today entitled "Herald can.t use "Allah" in its publications", it is reported that :

The Herald - The Catholic Weekly publication is not allowed to use the word “Allah” in its publications, the Cabinet decided.

The restrictions on the use of the word “Allah” was still enforceable and shall be upheld as decided by the Cabinet in two of its meetings – on Oct 18 and Nov 1, 2006, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdullah Mohd Zin said.

It looks that the Mushrooms' thanks are not wanted or appreciated. So what was really contained in the "the letter from the Internal Security Ministry - which was hand delivered to the newspaper at about 10am on 30th Dec 2007"? Does the Cabinet places any value on a letter from the Internal Security MINIster, who happens to be the PM and also the Head of the Cabinet? And can we stop being Mushrooms?

Mushrooms Arise

Today is as good as any to start blogging. Am finally blogging after mucho encouragement given by LOne and ThaiEngLang.

Recntly i came across this : Mushroom Dreams :
Allene Rasmussen Nichols wrote :

Once upon a time, a colony of mushrooms lived in a cellar that was full of darkness, horse manure, and stale air. The mushrooms didn't have cute, story-book names, like Princess Diana or Prince Charming. In fact, the mushrooms didn't have names at all. Not a single mushroom had ever thought "I," so not a single mushroom knew that it existed. The mushrooms' only purpose was to eat nutrients from the horse manure and grow large. It is a little known botanical fact that, for mushrooms, shit-eating is a communal experience.

Not a single window illuminated the cellar. No light shone under the door. The mushrooms knew only shades of gray and black. Not a single mushroom had ever thought "you" so they didn't know where they began and the dark and the smell and stale air began......

And it strike me, so Bolehlandish. Many of us are indeed like those mushrooms, being fed so much bullshit by the BN and refusing to think for ourselves. Being so fearful of rocking the boat and not being able to look over our bowls and personal comfort zones. Always not daring to look at the BN directly and telling the truth as it is. Always self-censoring ourselves to ensure the BN brand of national unity and economic progress and development.

The recent events as reported in Malaysiakini, like the Lingam saucy tape scandal, the Bersih protest march and the Hindraf Rally show that most Malaysian mushrooms have had it up to here. It is time that Malaysian Mushrooms must unite and stand up for what is good for the nation! There are people out there who wonder whether we are really not a nation!

2008 is a year as good as any for Malaysian Mushrooms to Arise. Unite and tell the BN that if it is not going to change its ways, we are ready to boot it out in the coming elections.

Tell the Election Commission chairman that if he is not ready to change and conduct fair elections on a level playing field then he has to go. The EC chairman should check why an 8 year old, named SEER HOR LE... with Mykad No. 991214740101 is listed as a Sabak Bernam voter and a 9 year old, named HJ ABD WA... with Mykad No. 981231081137 is similarly listed as a Sabak Bernam voter on the electoral rolls.

Tell Samy Vellu that if he has done so very much for the Indian community why then the present state of that community and the need for the Hindraf rally. Why then the need, post-Hindraf rally, to ask for a bigger share? The bullshit must stop! Why is Samy, even today, saying "(the MIC) would try to provide more educational, employment, economic, housing, aid and healthcare opportunities, for the people, especially the Indian community". What has he been doing during his "long reign" of the MIC?

There must be a stop to such unhealthy feed. The darkened windows must be cleaned and cleared and transparency must return. Good governance and accountability must may a come back.

We must arise to ensure that the Royal Commission on the Lingam Tape makes it enquiry using as wide as possible it terms of reference in order to put the judiciary on the right track. The rakyat must ensure the money and time spent do not go to waste. The IPCMC as recommended by the previous Royal Commission should be set up as near as possible as to what was originally envisaged by that Royal Commission. A watered-down Special Complaints Commission should not be acceptable.

For all these reasons and many many more, Malaysian Mushrooms must Arise.

Looks like this is sufficient for a 1st post. Mushrooms Arise will return later.
